In 2000, No Surf was able to raise over $1200 for the Northeast Ohio
Coalition for the Homeless. In 2001, we raised over $2000. The goal for
2002 is to raise $3000.
The Northeast Ohio Coalition for the Homeless (NEOCH) conducts advocacy
campaigns around homeless issues. NEOCH constucts empowerment projects
and organizes homeless people in the Northeast section of Ohio, including
Cleveland; engages in public education campaigns to dispel myths regarding
homelessness and poverty; publishes The Homeless Grapevine newspaper;
and conducts oversight and research in Northeast Ohio.

Homeless Grapevine was first published during the summer of 1993. The
total number of vendors served to date approximates 500; there are currently
35 active vendors. The paper has 55 volunteers and one paid staff who
is also the director of the NE Ohio Coalition for the Homeless. Fifty
percent (50%) of the paper is written by homeless individuals; all editorial
decisions are made by homeless/formerly homeless persons. It is the intention
of the Homeless Grapevine to expand to other cities in Ohio.
